The Fort Myers Beach Film Festival honored celebrity guest Kimberly McCullough, actress and director, with the Rising Star Award.
Dancing her way to a professional career as a youngster on such shows as "Fame," "Solid Gold," and "The People's Choice Awards," Kimberly McCullough made her feature film debut in the 1984 break-dancing musical "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo." She worked as a television actress, appearing in "Among Friends," "The Shield," and "Joan of Arcadia."
From musical theater to television sitcoms to her well-known role as Dr. Robin Scorpio on "General Hospital," she has proven to be one talented woman. On Fort Myers Beach this weekend, she debuted her first film and provided a workshop about her experience writing and directing "Nice Guys Finish Last."
McCullough learned Friday that she was named to the Disney/ABC Directing Fellowship for 2012 to 2014. For the next two years, she will have the opportunity to direct episodes on ABC television series and work with veteran Disney/ABC Television Group network and studio executives
The Fort Myers Beach Film Festival recognized comedian, singer, and actor Sal Richards with a Star Achievement Award, given to the celebrity guest who has entertained audiences for years. Richards co-stars in one of this year's independent films, "Crackers, directed and produced by Greg Principato.
Sal Richards' career has expanded to multiple areas of the entertainment industry, beginning as a singer, then stand-up comedian. He is also an accomplished actor appearing in Rounders, Fighting Back and Love is All There Is and Out for Justice. On television, he appeared in Law and Order Criminal Intent, Deadline, Bachelor Life, and The Sopranos, as well as numerous comedy and variety shows.
